BAY2BROOKLYN2021: Veterans and Firefighters Cycle Cross-Nation in Honor of the Lives Misplaced on Sept. 11, 2001


On Aug. 1, 2021, a bunch of cyclists left Santa Clara, California for the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge to formally begin a 3,800-mile trip throughout America. The objective is to reach in New York Metropolis and the Brooklyn Bridge in time for the twentieth Anniversary of 9/11.

The crew of ten cyclists together with three help chase drivers is made up of lively and retired firefighters and navy veterans. They’re using to recollect and honor those that made the final word sacrifice that fateful day in addition to all first responders, navy, and well being care employees who proceed to serve on the entrance traces right now.

Any donations raised will go to help the Gary Sinise Basis and the Santa Clara Firefighters Basis.

Bay to Brooklyn 2021 would be the second trip of its type. The primary was made in 2011 for the tenth anniversary, by Santa Clara Hearth Division (SCFD) firefighters Darrell L. Gross sales, Dave Lombardo, and help chase driver Fred Belligan. Darrell Gross sales, now retired, had deliberate the 2011 trip and has taken the lead once more for 2021.

When Darrell was requested what made him need to make this trip once more, his reply was easy: “Why not, our mission hasn’t modified. All of us watched the occasions unfold on September eleventh, 2001 and we’ve not forgotten the 343, that is why we trip.” Helping Darrell are fellow retired SCFD firefighters, Frank Walsh and Jeff Provancher.

This won’t be a relay; every bike owner will common 80 to 100 miles a day, testing the cyclists each bodily and mentally. The trip will take them north following a part of the historic Oregon Path and the Lincoln Freeway.
