Encouraging Participation in Distance Studying Classes

A couple of weeks in the past, in my weekly message to college students in Schoology, I advised them that in the event that they accomplished their project by a sure day and time (which I can see due to their participation in Peardeck or Nearpod), then I would choose one winner to decide on a school-appropriate karaoke tune for me to embed into the subsequent lesson. College students who had been chosen had been fairly excited, and it gave everybody a bit of reward on the finish of the lesson!

The week after that, I tailored the reward to allow them to both select a karaoke tune, or file a video, saying hello to the opposite college students of their grade.

As I write this, we solely have two extra weeks of classes that we are able to assign earlier than we wrap up the 12 months. I’m undecided what college will appear to be within the fall, but when we’re nonetheless distance studying, I’ve thought-about attempting different rewards, resembling having college students file a video for the morning bulletins (that are on Twitter), conferencing with a small group of scholars who “win,” and extra, like detailed on this web page.

A be aware right here: I felt comfy providing rewards to my college students, as a result of to my information, all of them both already had gadgets, or have been offered gadgets by my district. I’d be hesitant to do rewards in a state of affairs during which not all college students had entry to gadgets, as a result of then I might be rewarding privilege.
